Okay, can someone tell my what just happened?

Perhaps he did not like where the game was going and because it was unrated just bailed out. You can get a menacing pair of passed pawns but I don't think he resigned because he thought he was lost.

He may have wanted to experiment with an opening or idea and that is why he was playing unrated....

I don't think you will find players so quick to resign when they have rating points on the line.
